Hmm

Well, this was quite an interesting flash to watch. Granted, it was only 2 frames, one with the beast boi on it, and the other saying "omfg roffel". It was an interesting contrast between those two pictures, as I don't think either used the same colors. That being said, it lacks animation, a background, and sound. The flash certainly would have been better if those were added. There was a bit of humor in this too.

Meh

Okay, perhaps 3/5 is a bit much, but this wasn't too bad. The graphics were very good, and the lack of a true background or anything added to the flash a bit. The dialogue was kinda hard to hear at some points, and there were some scratchy parts, though they may have been on purpose. That guy in th background was cool, even though I didn't understand the purpose there. For soem reason I just didn't like how the flash was made though, as it didn't feel like anything was going on to me.

Fwd: i understand. this flash was totally random coz nothing in the voice recording was planned. its more of an animation practice than a planned humourful flash movie :)

Great fun

I must say, I'd iek to see some improvements on two things. First, make a fun title. "Mario Coin" is not something I was super-looking forward to watching. Even tweaking it to "Mario's lost Coin" would've made it a lil' better. Plus, using the brush to make the text speeches at the beginning looked very bad, try not to do that ever. all that aside, this flash was great. I LOVED the camera angles and movement, and the fight was great. Plus the Luigi quickie and the end was hilarious. I'd love to see more.

Not bad

This was more entertaining than you give it credit for. The sound effects were very well-placed, and the music worked well too. The graphics were just a couple spirtes, true, but you really know how to use them. The only coupe faults I can find are its length (it was short of course, but it also moved quite quickly, which isn't too bad I guess) and the lack of blood. Granted, it may have looked better than like this then with the blood, so I don't mind that too much either. Great first flash.

Poor

So painful

Note: I know the flash is supposed to be like this, I'm rating it the way I want to anyway.

To me, this was very painful to watch. I know everything's supposed to reflect n00b animations, but I think you overdid it on this one, as I could barely watch the whole thing. There were so many misspellings, such poor animation that I almost wanted to help you out on this. The graphics weren't terrible, but the sound could have definitely used some improvement. It's hard to rate these kinds of flashes that are satire when the satire is overdone.

Poor

(Note: I know this is supposed to be poor, I'm still rating this based on what I see). I saw what you were trying to do
; you were tryign to make your animation poor and in turn make us laugh. Well, you did one out of two. This flash was ery hard for me to watch, the voice was extremely annoying (get a better actor perhaps), the story is quite confusing, and I just watched it but can only remember a bit of it. Plus, the graphics actually weren't too bad (better than the terrible artists you were impersonating anyway).

Slightly disappointing, but awesome (~4096 chars)

Well, true to your word, you managed to churn out this episode before the end of Halloween. Since it was a Ghostmas-themed episode, I was most definitely excited for this. I’ve went too long without BH as it is. I mean, why else would I have made that soundboard? But anyway, onto my review.
First off, the cold open (which is the part before the title screen. It’s an actual term, but I’m sure you know that already). We’re starting off in a grocery, which I could tell would be funny. The first thing I notice is that you changed the outline on Blockhead, if only just for the first minute or so. Can’t say I liked it. Still, him jumping on the conveyor and having fun on that was definitely amusing, even though the outline was visibly different when he fell off. It pretty much just revolved around him putting the gum on the table and trying to anger the cashier. That in itself was a nice attempt at humor, though I can’t say it was that great. Blockhead then handed the Id to the cashier and tried to look like the guy on the ID, and that I definitely cracked up laughing at. BH actually did a pretty good job of looking like that weird guy. He continues doing his occasional snake imagery, including hitting the cashier and taking a nice bite out of the table for some reason. I am still not sure what his fascination for the destruction of property is, but oh well. And you used the Halloween theme for the title again, yay.
Now onto the actual episode, what fun. As I was saying about Blockhead’s destruction of property fetish, who exactly cleans the mess up every episode? I’ll be honest though, it seems at if you went overboard with the Conscience in this episode. It’s always hilarious to see him get pissed off, but he seemed overzealous and just too angry this time. Maybe that’s just me though. I also have to say that your animation and graphic have actually greatly improved. Everything looks more realistic in this episode it seems. The hearts on the wall were a nice touch, and they go very well with the whole idea of Ghostmas. I mean, is it not about l-l-love? Not sure how BH got stuck in the TV, but that may be better if I didn’t ask. BH can’t be too intelligent if he’s just wearing his #1 guy costume again. Or perhaps he doesn’t remember last year’s Ghostmas, since this is a different version than last year. I must say though, that was one of the least durable televisions I’ve ever seen. It was around for 15 years too . I loved how defensive he got about his costume, or his “retard uniform”. And then we get to the best part, the Ghostmas Carol.
I must say, BH isn’t that bad of a singer. He’s a little pitchy in a few spots, a couple flat notes, but he was alright. Yeah, I had to thro American Idol in my review. I’m quickly learning that Ghostmas is about spray paint (which we learned last year) and pumpkin, or throwing pumpkins at unsuspecting...cars. The scene with the woman who’s angry at BH actually shows off your knack for showing detail at its finest, even though there wasn’t a whole lot of it on the part where he breaks into the house. I find it amusing how the couple though BH was after drugs. I’m not sure if I care for BH’s occasional stuttering in the episode, since it seems out of character for him. For the couple, you could’ve shown some face animation when they woke up, but oh well, BH scaring them afterwards was funny. And then, we see the one thing that deep sown we were all expecting: Blockhead rowing on a skateboard; that was definitely hilarious. Then we see the muscled up cop who arrests BH. He probably enjoyed riding in the back of that police wagon for all we know. It’s funny how he’s so stupid as to say he’s going to break into some houses to a policeman. Plus, that house he was by looked pretty sweet. Oh, and I loved the Tongs Radio bumper sticker. He manages to get out, while he actually thinks he was being helpful. Hopefully he didn’t get hurt when he was run over when the flash ended.
Great graphics and sound, humor was more hit-and-miss than I would have liked. Overall not my favorite, but great.

The-Swain responds:

Haha, you know, I just went to smoke-show's "No - 2000" cartoon to watch it again after a year of not having seen it, and I noticed the review you left it in '05. I then thought I'd check your reviews to see if you had taken a look at Blockhead 8. I didn't expect that it would also be the latest review my cartoon had gotten. How's that for coincidence?

First, I thought I'd comment on the sleeping couple in the final part of the episode. See, on my monitor the darkness obscures the woman's features and any attempt I made at detailing were abandoned. On top of that, she's so small in that shot that I didn't think anything of it.

Now, as for his song... :) I am no operatic singer or anything, but I animated a lot of his movement before I recorded the song, and in some of the shots it looks a bit like he is straining to produce a sound. I mean, I sing in the car a whole lot, but I imagine that Blockhead has never had that luxury. Plus, it's a lot easier to try to sing worse than it is to try to sing better :)

And I imagine the TV has probably changed at least once, because I finally got around to adding a green on-light to it, now that I'm no longer using JPG backgrounds.

Oh, and as for Blockhead's house. Maybe one day I'll explain why things seem to "fix themselves" after Blockhead destroys them, but I can't really explore that just yet. Let's just leave it within the realm of possibility, where you'll also find such questions as "why does Blockhead even own a house to begin with?"

Also, Blockhead's stuttering isn't a speech problem so much as he's got a problem coming to terms with certain concepts, such as "love". I mean, he is part stupid, but he's also part insane, and the insanity was really starting to win out in this episode.

And Blockhead has survived more than one car accident already, so I'm sure he'll be fine. He is immune to slapstick.

Very good

You never made another flash after this one? Too bad, this one was really good. It was pretty predictable, but it didn't have to be anything special to get a nice chuckle out of me. Even though each short was kinda cliche, it was funny. The graphics were really good, as was the animation. The sound playing was great and matched up with the cartoon well. I must say that I like the second one the best, since I have no idea where the rainbow came from.

A lot of potential

Simply put, this flash could've been so much better. You were on the fine line between decent, good, and great btu couldn't push yourself over it. The graphics were great, especially for how long ago this was made. The concept was good, with the guy that thinks the chicken is a dog, simple enough. Then you had to go and have him throw a bomb and end the flash, which I thought you did far too early. If you had carried the joke further, this would've been a grea tflash, because you had everything else in the flash down pat.
